If you’re getting ready to set up the financial tools for your new business, or looking for a refresher, this lunch-and-learn is for you. You’ll learn about the foundations of business finance including bookkeeping basics, ways to improve cash flow, and managing business accounts.

About the presenters:

Tonya Williams has a foundation built in her time in law enforcement and personal coaching that nurtured her passion for taking on uncomfortable conversations, which included finances for numerous individuals. After briefly working in the MSUFCU Call Center, Tonya transitioned to the Financial Education Department to utilize skills she has refined over decades to help teach financial awareness. Tonya brings with her an associate degree in criminal justice, an Academy of Creative Coaching Life and Executive Coach Certification, Six Sigma Lean Management White Belt certification, and, most importantly, personal entrepreneurial experience as a successful real estate investor and life and leadership coach.

Karla Shappee has worked at MSU Federal Credit Union since 2006 and is dedicated to providing exceptional service with an upbeat attitude to all of their members. Karla has an extensive knowledge in consumer lending and was a part of the Business Services team for three years prior to her relocation to the Traverse City region in 2019 as a Branch Lead to support in the opening of our two new branches. Karla rejoined the Business Services team in 2021 as a Commercial Lender to assist their growing membership in Northern Michigan. Karla takes pride in building strong, long-lasting relationships and is committed to creating a positive depository and lending experience.

Karla has completed her Certificate in Business and Commercial Lending from the ABA, received the MSUFCU Superior Service award in 2020, along with the MSUFCU Crystal Award in 2017. When Karla is not at the Credit Union she can be found with her husband and daughter enjoying our state’s natural resources. Search one of your local lakes, you will likely find her fishing!
