Ming Mays, in her own words: “I am a unicorn who has fulfilled the American dream. Originally a popular teenager in Hong Kong, political circumstances led me to move to the United States. At 15 years old, I faced many struggles, including leaving my family and friends behind and not being able to speak the language and express my thoughts. Through perseverance in the new environment, I empathized with the voiceless and underserved.
As the first college graduate in my family, I earned a BA in Computer Science in Network Engineering, thriving in a field where women and immigrants are minorities. With over 20 years in technology and 16+ years as an IT director for various sectors, including public schools and non-profits, I have successfully completed numerous projects that positively impacted the communities. Additionally, I have been honored three times with the Traverse City Business News, TCBN 40 Under 40 award.
My leadership embodies heart, vulnerability, positivity, innovation, and relationship building. I believe IT is about improving and impowering lives. My journey shows that hard work, passion, and resilience can make anything possible. I take pride in my achievements and am eager to keep making a positive impact on others.”
