By 20Fathoms

Get to know the people who have joined 20Fathoms in the last couple of months.

Erin Dodson

Director of Finance and Operations, Crush Studio

Describe your professional background.

My background is in accounting and business operations – I’ve worked in both public accounting for a large top ten public accounting company, and in the corporate world for a Fortune 50 company. I now work at Crush Studio, an awesome experiential marketing company, as the Director of Operations. Working at Crush means I now get to flex some creative muscles that I wasn’t previously able to in a professional capacity.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

My company is based in Denver, CO, which means I work remotely full time. I love working from home, but realized that I want to be around other people in the same scenario, make more connections in our community, and get a change of scenery a few days a week.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

My husband and I fell in love with Traverse City years ago and always dreamed of living and raising our family here. We decided to take the plunge, and moved here a little over a year ago. As a result, it means that outside of work, we spend all of our free time enjoying this amazing little corner of the world that we now call home – swimming in the lake every day during the summer, climbing the dunes, biking the TART trail, sipping local wine, hiking, snowshoeing, etc.!

Edith Elliott

Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Noora Health

Describe your professional background.

I have spent my career in the global health space, most recently living in India working on Noora Health. Before Noora, I was with a large international health NGO working on contractible disease prevention.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

The beautiful view, it’s convenient, and there’s interesting people!

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I like to spend time with my daughter on the lake or in the snow, and enjoy beautiful Northern Michigan sunsets!

Keenan May

Head of Product – Sensors at R-Zero

Describe your professional background.

I’ve worked in commercial and residential architecture for a while. I co-founded a corporate real estate-focused IoT & Analytics company, CoWorkr, while finishing up graduate work at the University of Michigan Taubman School of Architecture. I, and my partners, built that company in San Francisco and we were acquired in 2021 by R-Zero, a biosafety company. I currently work as Head of Product | Sensors at R-Zero but wear many hats on a daily basis.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

My wife and I previously worked in 20Fathoms when it was on Front Street—prior to the pandemic. After working from home for a while I needed a more social environment and a space that I can use as a testing environment for products.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

We typically spend most of our free time outside, hiking, surfing, skiing, etc. with our 2-year-old daughter. I also have a small after-hours design practice, Northerly, that I use to keep up on my architecture skills. We’re currently designing our future home.

Sarahbeth Ramsey

Owner of The Boho Marketing Co

Describe your professional background.

I am Sarahbeth Ramsey, Owner of Boho Marketing Co, and I am a Baltimore native who graduated from Towson University with an undergraduate degree in International Business, as well as a MBA from the University of Baltimore in Entrepreneurship. I recently moved to Traverse City, MI for a change of pace and chance to continue working on a better work/life balance.

My business goal started with an intent to help other small businesses and startups with their social media platforms at affordable rates with stress-free techniques. In order to do this, I created a business model that includes customized solutions focused on client vision, mission and budget, originally based on the needs of my small business friends.

In 2019, I started speaking and hosting workshops to local professional groups in my field and beyond. I have also served as a mentor to startups at various co-working locations and to students at the University of Baltimore, as well as assisted with local pitch competitions.

As the business evolved, I saw a real need to assist other business owners and individuals with what I call “Social Media Wellness.” Put simply: helping clients feel better online and setting better technology boundaries. Balance is key, and we teach practices like “Offline Sundays- 24 hours offline” to assist with this. I also talk about this on my podcast “The More You Grow Podcast”. By far, my favorite experience with this was speaking with middle schoolers. The sooner we instill boundaries, the better, and hearing from them was so refreshing and eye opening!

The Boho Marketing Co. continues to evolve into more of a holistic-based social media approach.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

The heart of what I do includes talking to startups and small businesses on a daily basis. 20Fathoms gives me a direct line to get involved and be able to meet people in the area. From day one, everyone at 20Fathoms has been so warm and welcoming. They’ve provided me so much support to help me continue to grow here in Traverse City. Plus, I mean, come on–that view!

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I am an avid traveler, visiting over 15 countries, as well as several states within the U.S., and I love learning about other cultures and traditions. However, my favorite thing to do is hang out with my 10-year-old rescue pup, Ella. I am also an acrylic artist, painting mostly floral/plant designs. Lastly, I love being outside. I’ve done stand-up-paddleboards for years, and just started racing this past year. I’m also passionate about hiking, camping, boating, biking, and fitness in general. I’m excited to take cross-country ski lessons when it starts snowing.

Laura Rutkowski

Freelance Senior Instructional Designer

Describe your professional background.

I am an Instructional Designer who creates training solutions for corporate America. Most of my work has been with the automotive companies – Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Toyota –creating web courses and live training for dealership employees. So, the next time you take a web course know there is somebody like me who had to figure out the best way to present the content, so that you don’t get bored. I have an MBA and a Master’s in Instructional Technology, both from Wayne State.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

In 2018 I took a Design Learning workshop at 20Fathoms. (It was great!). The guy who sat next to me suggested I check out the rental options, and the next thing you know I was here. I work out of a home office most of the time, but I knew it would be great to get over here once a week to collaborate with and meet others. Don’t hesitate to stop by and say hello!

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I am a book lover. That means, reading, browsing, shopping, buying books. There is a word for somebody who buys more books than they can read, but I can’t remember it. Anyway, that’s me. I’m also a golfer, walker, meditator, lover of nature, and last but not least a smitten grandmother.
