Welcome, New 20Fathoms Members!

By 20Fathoms

Get to know the people who have joined 20Fathoms in the last couple of months.

Russell Edens

CTO at Evvnt

Russell Edens

Describe your professional background.

I’m presently the CTO of Evvnt, an international white label event marketing and ticketing company. You may also know it locally as mynorthtickets.com. The company was founded in Traverse City (as Geotix, pre-acqusition) and has Boomerang Catapult [a 20Fathoms member] as an investor.  Prior to entering the event marketing and ticketing space, I founded OptiShot Golf. Before moving to Traverse City, I was the Chief Architect at Concur SAP in Seattle.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

Prior to COVID we had an office space downtown, but now we are a remote-first company.  We wanted to create an environment for local team members to be able to collaborate and connect together. 20Fathoms provides the ideal space and resources.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I travel, mountain bike, cross country ski, play hockey, listen to live music, and camp.

Alexa Hanel

Registration Services at Dunaj Agency

Describe your professional background.

I’ve been working in the corporate events industry since 2007 and am currently managing event registration and technology for the Dunaj Agency.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

My husband Rob gifted me the membership for Christmas!

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

We love to cross-country ski in the winter, or just hike around with our boys and our dog Fiona. If you see a German Shorthair Pointer streaking like lightning through the woods somewhere, we are probably hiking nearby!

Tricia Meyer

Managing Attorney at Meyer Law, Ltd.

Tricia Meyer

Describe your professional background.

I am the Founder and Managing Attorney of Meyer Law, one of the fastest growing law firms in the United States. We help entrepreneurs and technology companies from startups to large corporations with day-to-day matters. Notable clients include companies that have appeared on Shark Tank, to companies gracing the Inc. 500, to some of the largest companies in the world. I have recently been named on the Forbes Next 1000 list, as one of the Most Influential Female Lawyers in Chicago according to Crain’s Chicago Business and been recognized as a top 10 technology lawyer. What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

I have recently relocated to northern Michigan with my husband and 6 kids and absolutely love it! The moment I was introduced to the 20Fathoms team, I knew it was the perfect fit for me!  As an entrepreneur and a lawyer, I have a unique perspective and have mentored thousands of startups and scaling companies at tech incubators and accelerators across the United States such as 1871, WeWork Labs and Techstars. I look forward to meeting all the rockstars over at 20Fathoms!

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I love skiing in the winter and hanging out at the beach in the summer with my 6 kids and husband!  We are loving life in Northern Michigan!  A true hidden paradise!

Joe Mosher

Founder and Principal Advisor of Mosher Consulting Group

Joe Mosher

Describe your professional background.

I have been working in food and agribusiness for most of my career, with more than a decade at a privately held company serving food, agriculture, financial, and industrial customers in nearly 70 countries. My tenure there provided me with experiences in plant operations, process improvement, management consulting, internal audit, and global risk assurance. Last year I took leave of my corporate career to test a hypothesis: the idea that extending access to strategy-execution advisory services beyond large firms and multinationals addressed an unmet need in the market. Companies in this space are under considerable pressure to change and adapt, and I founded Mosher Consulting Group to support small and middle-market food and agribusinesses that need to bridge the gap between their bold strategic objectives and actual execution capabilities. There’s often a lot of daylight between what is sought and what can be delivered, and this is where I offer a hand.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

You mean, besides the views of West Bay? I have been working remotely and with virtual teams for many years–even prior to the pandemic. However, as travel has been reduced and I am now serving companies in an advisory capacity (rather than as an embedded member of the team), working from our farmhouse outside Cedar in Leelanau County can be isolating. I joined 20Fathoms to connect with the interesting and diverse cast of characters that are doing great and exciting things right here in our amazing little corner of the world. Even if your neighbor works in an unrelated, non-adjacent field, fresh perspectives spark new insights and ideas. This is the currency of innovation and 20Fathoms is rich in both.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

My wife is a humanities faculty member at Interlochen Arts Academy, we have two kids under five, we both hold roles in local government (board of education, planning commission), and we live in a 140-year-old farmhouse rich with “opportunities.” So, we rarely suffer the burden of free time! When it does allow, I enjoy hiking with the kids, road biking on the TART, and pondering what types of chickens we should get once I get the coop rebuilt (simple weekend project now entering year four of construction).

Richard Rethoret

Staff Engineer – Mechanical at Stryker

Richard Rethoret

Describe your professional background.

My primary professional background has been in the field of mechanical engineering, working for some phenomenal companies in the medical (Stryker) and aerospace (United Technologies) industries. In addition to being part of engineering teams developing some really interesting products, I’ve been fortunate to hold positions in project leadership, business development, and marketing. I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California San Diego (my hometown), and later received a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Western Michigan University.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

I have been working semi-remotely for the last year, and have found that I’m the type of person that enjoys getting out of the house and being around others often. While I commute down state to my current employer somewhat regularly, I was looking for a change of scenery from my home office and for opportunities to connect with other professionals in the area. 20Fathoms fits the bill perfectly.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I’m a father to five kids, all under the age of 8, so most of my non-working hours are spent being a dad! For hobbies, I love doing anything outdoors including camping, fishing, hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking.

Merek Roman

Associate at Vista Exploration

Merek Roman

Describe your professional background.

I am a native who boomeranged back to Traverse City after almost 9 years in the oil and gas industry. My oilfield experience ranges from West Virginia to North Dakota as an upstream field engineer. I worked as an onsite directional driller and logging engineer for Baker Hughes in several regions including Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Colorado, and Utah. My academic background includes a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University, an M.S. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University, and a Certificate in Commodities from the University of Colorado at Denver. I currently work as an Associate at Vista Exploration where I handle mapping data and analyzing future prospects.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

20Fathoms has a great vibrant community filled with wonderful energy. Vista needed an office to accommodate our meetings with a professional atmosphere.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I love being a part of the Traverse City community:  I am a part of the Cherry Capital Toastmasters, and volunteer with the local Boy Scout Troop and local government. Normally, I have my nose in a book at the library or at Brew.

Eamon Smith

Managing Director and Partner at Geller Capital Partners

Eamon Smith

Describe your professional background.

I’m one of the founders of Geller Capital Partners, a boutique real estate private equity investment platform.  I have over 20 years of experience in investing, operating, and financing hotel, leisure, and senior care businesses in the Americas and Europe.

What inspired you to join our 20Fathoms community?

I really enjoy an environment which offers the opportunity to engage with people working in different industries.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

I love spending time with my wife (Lydia) and our 2 boys (Winston & Archibald) and enjoy keeping active and competing in team sports (basketball, lacrosse, football, etc…).
