20Fathoms announces matching gift challenge to support the growth of tech entrepreneurship in Northwest Michigan

By 20Fathoms

Today, 20Fathoms unveiled a $2 million matching gift challenge to support the region’s startups and tech entrepreneurs who are working to build new businesses in our region. Of the $2 million, 50% ($1 million) has already been raised.

20Fathoms is seeking community support to raise the remaining $1 million. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Build to Scale Venture Challenge grant.

“By making a donation to 20Fathoms, you can help us unlock $2 million in matching funds that will directly support the growth of tech entrepreneurship in our region,” said Eric Roberts, Executive Director of 20Fathoms. “This significant investment strengthens our economy for the long-term and will provide local opportunities down the road for our kids and grandkids who want to make their home in Northwest Michigan. Every dollar makes a difference.”

20Fathoms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works with tech entrepreneurs to build thriving businesses. Together with our donors and partners, we’re mobilizing a startup community that is creating high-value jobs and thriving families in our community for generations to come. Since opening our doors in 2018, we’ve created or sustained 275+ jobs, raised $138 million in startup and growth capital, and served 200+ companies.

One of those companies is MeetingMaker which provides a mobile application that helps people verify their attendance at meetings and simplifies caseload management for case managers. “For me, what it means to be a part of 20Fathoms is to know that I have the support and connections that I need to make my business grow and succeed,” said Jodie Schanhals, Founder & CEO of MeetingMaker. “They’re an invaluable ally for companies like MeetingMaker.”

Donations can be made online or mailed to the 20Fathoms office. We also accept gifts through donor advised funds, qualified charitable distributions from your IRA, and appreciated assets. If you have questions about giving opportunities, please contact Brittany VanderBeek, Director of Development and Community Engagement.
