TCNewTech is where Michigan startups stop planning quietly and start pitching confidently. Get real feedback, real connections, and a chance at real money.
Applications open on a rolling basis for all 2026 dates.
Additional pitch competition dates include: July 14, 2026 and September 8, 2026
Big TCNewTech pitch competitions happen quarterly (typically February, April, September, and November) at City Opera House. Throughout the year during months without a big pitch competition, we’ll be hosting fireside chats and smaller-scale pitches where anyone can drop in. No pressure, and no application needed. Join us, build connections, and level-up your skills.
You should apply if:
We’re looking for businesses that leverage technology as a core part of their product or service and have the potential to scale regionally or nationally. That includes software, hardware, biotech, ag-tech, health-tech. Take a peek at past events below.
Unlike cutthroat pitch competitions where founders are pitted against each other, TCNewTech is built around community. Yes, there are judges. Yes, there’s a winner. But the real energy in the room isn’t competitive. It’s collaborative.
The audience is filled with entrepreneurs who were once in your shoes, investors looking for their next bet, mentors ready to open doors, and neighbors who genuinely want to see Northern Michigan startups succeed.
Meet the founders building Michigan’s next big things. See ideas you wish you’d thought of first. Make connections that mean something.
Early-stage, Michigan-based tech startups with growth potential beyond the local market. We’re looking for founders who are ready to test their pitch, get real feedback, and tap into Northern Michigan’s startup ecosystem.

No, but we do give preference to those startups located in Northwestern Lower Michigan. FYI, you must be registered as a Michigan-based business (or under tribal sovereign jurisdiction within Michigan’s geographic boundaries).
You don’t need revenue or a finished product, but you do need a clear vision and the ability to articulate how you’ll build a scalable business.
You bet. Finalists may present individually or in teams, with up to two presenters per team.
Yes. All finalists must present in person at the event in Traverse City.
We want to understand what problem you’re solving, who you’re solving it for, why your solution is different, and how you plan to build a sustainable business. Show us you’ve thought this through.
We review applications on a rolling basis and notify finalists several weeks before each event to allow time for coaching and preparation.
Pitches are 5 minutes, followed by Q&A from judges. Exact format details are shared with finalists.
Cash awards are given for First Place, Second Place, and Audience Choice.
Honestly? You still win. Every finalist gets coaching, feedback, and access to a room full of people who can help, including investors, advisors, potential customers, and partners. Ask anyone with good connections and they’ll tell you how valuable they can be.
Those who have received the First Place Award or Second Place Award at a TCNewTech pitch competition within the past two years are not eligible.
Anyone! TCNewTech events are free and open to the public. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, investor, startup enthusiast, or just curious about what’s being built in Northern Michigan, you’re welcome.
Nothing. Attending is completely free.
