SUMMARY:Your Business Is Thriving. Are You?\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nThe pace of creating and scaling a business can be as depleting as it is exciting. Even founders who place a high value on their health can find themselves struggling to maintain it during periods of intensity\, running on empty\, or unable to shift gears between work and home. \nIn this session\, Katy Dion will help you recognize some of the hidden and surprising causes of chronic stress\, energy depletion\, and difficulty switching off\, and give you tools for assessing where you actually stand right now. You’ll leave with a map that puts your current experience in context\, plus a set of doable actions for cultivating more wellbeing\, for yourself and your team. \nYou’ll also get the chance to try out a practice that builds wellbeing in the moment\, one you can keep using long after the session ends. \nWhat We’ll Cover: \n\nHow to recognize the hidden and surprising causes of chronic stress\, energy depletion\, and difficulty shifting gears between work and home life\nA map for assessing your wellbeing\, plus a series of doable actions that support you in being strategic about cultivating more of it for yourself and your team\nA hands-on practice that builds wellbeing\, with the chance to try it during the session\n\nAbout the Presenter\nKaty Dion is a social impact leadership coach who helps purpose-driven leaders stop sacrificing their wellbeing to their purpose\, so they can have both. \nHer approach is practical rather than prescriptive: instead of asking busy changemakers to overhaul their lives\, she helps them find the hidden opportunities for rest that already exist within it. She’s also the creator of a free guide featuring five evidence-based rest practices built for high-intensity environments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Breakfast Lab\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs. SUMMARY:AI Powered Personal Productivity: Stop Prompting\, Start Delegating\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nStill babysitting every AI prompt one message at a time? This week\, Brian Jean shows you how to move from prompting to delegating\, turning one project you’ve been putting off into a bounded\, long-running cloud-agent job that keeps working after you close your laptop. You’ll learn how to hand off real work with the right context\, a clear finish line\, and built-in checkpoints\, so you can supervise without hovering over every step. Come with a project you’ve been postponing; leave with an agent actively advancing it. \nWhat You’ll Walk Away With: \n\nHow to choose work that’s safe and suitable for asynchronous execution\nHow to define deliverables\, constraints\, and a clear finish line\nHow to build in checkpoints and approval boundaries\nHow to launch\, monitor\, redirect\, and resume a long-running job\nHow to review the work and fold useful results back into your knowledge base\n\nAbout the Presenter\nBrian Jean is a Principal Software Engineer in defense tech by day and an AI entrepreneur and hands-on builder of AI-supported workflows by night. His work focuses on turning emerging AI capabilities into practical\, accountable systems that help people move meaningful work forward\, while keeping important decisions and approvals in human hands. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Breakfast Lab\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs. SUMMARY:AI-Powered Personal Productivity: Orchestrate Your System\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nThe work does not stop arriving just because you found focus or delegated one task. New requests\, calendar commitments\, meeting follow-ups\, ideas\, and loose ends keep showing up—and most productivity systems fail because they rely on memory and heroic effort to catch them all. \nIn this hands-on session\, you’ll design a lightweight AI-supported capture and routing system for your incoming work. We’ll explore how AI can help surface tasks from the places work already appears\, including calendars and meeting follow-up\, then help you decide what needs your attention now\, what belongs in a focused work block\, and what can be delegated or deferred. \nYou’ll leave with a practical model for running your personal operating system: protecting focus\, handing off the right work\, and keeping new commitments from disappearing into the noise. \nAttendees should bring: \n\nA laptop\nA current calendar and task list\, or a representative sample of incoming work\nOne recurring source of “things falling through the cracks” they would like to improve\nA paid ChatGPT or Claude subscription (recommended)\n\nAbout the Presenter\nAdam Lorton is an independent consultant who helps non-engineers gain new superpowers with AI. \nSince the release of ChatGPT\, Adam has been on a mission to push AI tools to their limits—not for gimmicks\, but for real business value. He has been invited to teach AI fundamentals to organizations including Mochary Method Coaching and ALO Yoga. \nOutside work\, Adam is the author of This Week in Speedgolf\, the #1 newsletter on the internet devoted to the most athletic version of golf. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Breakfast Lab\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs. SUMMARY:AI-Powered Personal Productivity: Multiply Your Agency\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nAI is most useful when it does more than answer a question. The real leverage comes when you can hand it a bounded outcome\, give it the context and guardrails it needs\, and let it work while you stay responsible for the judgment that matters. \nIn this hands-on session\, you’ll learn how to turn a longer-running task into a delegation brief for AI. We’ll cover what to delegate\, what not to delegate\, how to supply clear instructions and source material\, and how to build useful checkpoints so you are not blindly trusting an agent or stuck supervising every keystroke. \nParticipants will adapt one real task into a practical delegation workflow: something that can move forward while they work on higher-value priorities. This session builds directly on the protected focus time from Session 1\, but it also stands alone for anyone who wants a better way to use AI on substantial work. SUMMARY:AI-Powered Personal Productivity: The Focus Block\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nMost founders know what it feels like to be busy all day and still fail to move the one thing that actually matters. Slack\, email\, customer requests\, half-finished ideas\, and a constantly available AI assistant can make it even harder to protect real thinking time. \nIn this hands-on session\, you’ll build a repeatable AI-supported focus block: a simple system for choosing one meaningful outcome\, gathering the context you need\, working deliberately\, parking distractions\, and closing with a clear next step. You’ll see how AI can help you prepare\, think\, and execute without becoming another source of noise. \nWe’ll work through how to define a useful outcome\, assemble the right context\, and create a personal focus workflow you can reuse. Attendees who come prepared should leave with a working template for their next high-value block of work. \nAttendees should bring: \n\nA laptop\nOne meaningful outcome or project they want to make progress on\nAny useful context: notes\, documents\, links\, or a rough to-do list\nA paid ChatGPT or Claude subscription (recommended)\n\nAbout the Presenter\nAdam Lorton is an independent consultant who helps non-engineers gain new superpowers with AI. \nSince the release of ChatGPT\, Adam has been on a mission to push AI tools to their limits—not for gimmicks\, but for real business value. SUMMARY:Finding Focus as a Solopreneur\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nFounders don’t lack ideas\, connections\, or resources — they lack focus. As the CEO\, CFO\, CMO\, and everything else in between\, it’s easy to lose sight of what actually matters when everything feels like the priority. \nIn this session\, Shea Petaja will share the guiding principles she’s developed for solopreneurs to focus\, find support\, and gain traction. Shea has worked with coaches on strategy and focus since 2008\, and after years facilitating EOS and L10 meetings for a former employer\, she struck out on her own in 2022 — only to discover that the frameworks built for bigger businesses don’t translate perfectly to solopreneurs. That realization led her to create a mastermind of founders and the Fo*Cuss planner\, built around a simple truth from her own coach: “Simple isn’t easy.” \nJoin Shea for breakfast and learn how to cut through the noise and get traction on what matters most. This session is ideal for experienced solopreneurs and seasoned founders in need of a refresh. \nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShea Petaja has been working with coaches on strategy and focus since 2008. She introduced EOS to her former employer and facilitated L10 meetings for several years — she’s a fan. When she went out on her own in 2022\, she found that the skills that worked for bigger businesses didn’t translate perfectly for solopreneurs\, so she created a mastermind of founders and the Fo*Cuss planner\, now their guide to getting focused and staying on track. \n\nAbout Breakfast Lab\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs. Connecting you to the right tools and the right people at the right time. \nThese events are held in person and offered virtually. There is no cost to attend. Coffee and a light breakfast are provided. Walk-ins are welcome. \nAnd if you’d like to stay and keep working\, coworking at 20Fathoms is free on Thursdays for Breakfast Lab attendees.

SUMMARY:Time Management for Relentless Results\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab

You’ll walk through practical frameworks for focus\, accountability\, and momentum\, along with the habits that keep high-growth companies and top-performing leaders executing at a high level day after day. \nYou’ll leave with concrete tools you can put to use immediately. From ways to eliminate the distractions eating your time to building systems that don’t depend on willpower. Align your daily actions with what actually moves your business forward. \nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRose Odette is a technology founder\, author\, and speaker\, and host of the Bullish on Business podcast. She also hosts the Bullish on Business podcast\, where she’s interviewed more than 100 entrepreneurs and business leaders about the strategies and breakthroughs behind real growth. \nRose left a successful career at IBM to bootstrap her own healthcare technology company while raising three young children\, eventually partnering with global leaders like IBM\, HP\, CSC\, and Atos. SUMMARY:Build an AI Knowledge Base\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nMost founders are sitting on a goldmine of useful information: customer interviews\, strategy notes\, market research\, sales conversations\, and half-finished ideas. The problem is it’s scattered everywhere: folders\, docs\, inboxes\, and people’s heads. \nIn this hands-on session\, you’ll learn how to turn your scattered documents into an AI-powered\, interlinked knowledge base; something closer to a private Wikipedia for your company. Using tools like Claude Code or Codex alongside Obsidian\, you’ll build an “AI librarian” that can read your materials\, organize them into a wiki-style structure\, and answer questions based on your own source documents. \nWe’ll walk through how to organize messy source materials into a practical\, interlinked knowledge base\, how to build a starter version live using your own documents\, and how to ask better questions of your AI librarian so it becomes more useful over time. Attendees who come prepared should leave with a working starter knowledge base in hand. \nAttendees should bring: \n\nA laptop\n3–5 documents to use as source material (customer notes\, strategy docs\, research\, SOPs\, etc.)\nA paid ChatGPT or Claude subscription with Codex or Claude Code\nObsidian (free for personal use — download at obsidian.md)\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdam Lorton is an independent consultant who helps non-engineers gain new superpowers with AI. \nAbout Breakfast Lab\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs. SUMMARY:The Profit-First Founder's AI Stack: Where to Use AI Before You Have Revenue\, a 20Fathoms Breakfast Lab
DESCRIPTION:This Week at Breakfast Lab\nMost founders treat AI as a productivity hack. Smart founders treat it as a profit lever. \nIn this session\, we’ll walk through where AI actually moves the needle when you’re pre-revenue or early-revenue\, the work it can replace\, the spend it can defer\, and the leverage it creates when you can’t afford to hire. You’ll see live demos of real AI workflows used in building and scaling a business from the ground up. \nWe’ll cover the four highest-ROI places early-stage founders should put AI to work today (and the two places not to)\, live walkthroughs of AI workflows for marketing\, customer research\, financial modeling\, and sales follow-up using tools you already have access to\, and a simple framework for deciding what to automate\, what to outsource\, and what to keep on your own desk. You’ll leave with a practical\, ready-to-use AI stack\, built for the stage you’re actually in. \nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElliot Swift is the founder of Swift Profit Systems\, a profit acceleration advisory firm based in Traverse City. Before SPS\, Elliot spent four years in real estate\, then co-founded and scaled 42 Degrees\, a Michigan manufacturing company\, from $0 to $75 million in revenue over seven years\, building it to 120 employees and holding a 38% gross margin through an 85% wholesale price collapse. That decade of operator experience\, making payroll\, navigating regulators\, and fixing problems on the floor at 2 a.m.\, is the foundation of how Elliot now helps owner-operated businesses find and fix the hidden leaks costing them six and seven figures a year. Today he runs SPS with his wife Monika\, leans heavily on AI to operate lean and find profit for clients\, and is raising two kids\, Natalie and Wyatt\, in Traverse City. \nAbout Breakfast Lab\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs.

Plus a primer on angel inv\n\n\nThis week at Breakfast Lab:\nWhat are venture capitalists actually looking for when they evaluate a startup? In this session\, we’ll break down how investors really assess opportunities. We’ll go through what signals they trust\, what metrics matter at different stages\, and the red flags that quietly kill deals. We’ll walk through the core decision framework behind a “yes\,” including team strength\, market timing\, product differentiation\, traction and retention\, go-to-market strategy\, and the risk investors need to believe you can reduce quickly. We’ll also touch on angel investing: why it can be one of the most rewarding ways to support startups\, but also why it’s a long-term\, high-risk investment that requires discipline and patience. You’ll leave with a practical fundraising checklist\, a sharper pitch narrative\, and a clearer understanding of how investors think. \nWe’ll cover:\n\nThe VC Checklist: What Actually Gets Funded\n5 Red Flags That Should Make Founders and Funders Pause\nAngel Investing: Smart Money or Expensive Hobby?\n\nAbout the Presenter\nPatti Glaza is Executive Vice President of Venture and Managing Director of ID Ventures at Invest Detroit\, where she leads early-stage venture investing and supports high-growth technology startups across the Midwest. She actively mentors entrepreneurs\, serves on several startup and ecosystem boards\, and teaches customer discovery and commercialization through the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program. \nWhat is Breakfast Lab?\nBreakfast Lab is a weekly event at 20Fathoms where you’ll get expert guidance to help meet your most pressing startup needs\, providing access to the right tools and the right people at the right time. \nThese events are held in person and will be offered virtually.
